Chef Makani Carzino and family
Makani was born in Kealakekua and raised on the Big Island of Hawai’i. Her passion for healthy eating began in high school when she worked at two different Kealakekua health food stores. It was then that she realized that the majority of people were unaware of the harmful chemicals being used on their food. Makani wanted to make a positive difference in the way that people ate so she decided to pursue Culinary school in San Francisco and St. Helena.
She was presented with the opportunity to open her first restaurant in 2010, which would come to be known as Ultimate Burger.
“A good burger and fries bring friends and family together. Part of island living for me is about eating real food. Food that is free from any processed ingredients or additives. My philosophy is nutrient-dense superfoods that do not harm the environment and provide fair practices and prices for farmers, ranchers, and consumers.”
